Ties for the gents

One of the nice things about having the boys dress up in black suits is that you've got a bit of leeway in playing around with colors. The male entourage is composed of three principal sponsors, three groomsmen, one best man and two dads and we're giving them different colored ties (but all within our color scheme).

The principal sponsors will be getting a crisp, gold tie with a purplish undertone (if you look closely at the photo you can see the pinkish highlights) made out of Thai silk. I can't remember the name of the store but it's the only one that deals with Thai silk in Market! Market! The fabric is two-ply cloth that's less than 40" in width. Because it's so narrow, TieLine could only make 4 ties out of the 2 yards of fabric.

The best man and groomsmen will be getting a copper colored tie made from silk shantung. The material is very soft and has a nice texture similar to that of linen paper. Shantung has two sides, one that's shiny (shown in the photo) and the reverse which is matte. We used the matte side for the groomsmen (I think this is the "correct" side) and the shiny side for the best man. We bought the material from Carolina's in Market! Market! and it came in 60" width. One yard was good for 4 ties.

Eric's mom chose a rust-colored fabric for her dress and Veluz gave Eric a swatch of the material with instructions to find a matching tie. We found the exact same shade in a Star Satin fabric in the Metro department store of Market! Market!

All custom-made ties were cut and sewn by TieLine. The ties were cut on a bias and the number of ties per yard was dependent on the type and width of the fabric. They also needed at least one yard to be able to cut things properly (we brought in half a yard of the dark orange cloth and they couldn't do anything with it). All transactions were made with their Greenbelt 1 branch and in ten days everything was ready for pick-up. The ties were well sewn and they all look like the stuff in their stores (complete with the TieLine label and cardboard containers).
